Paul Wey, a well-known lawyer in London, has released many superb works on the BIS label and has attracted much attention. Adolf von Henselt (1814-1889), born near Nuremberg, was a pianist and composer who later moved to the Russian Empire and laid the foundation of the Russian piano school. The premiere of Henselt's piano concerto, performed with great success by Clara Schumann soloist and Mendelssohn conductor, was followed by performances by the great virtuosos.In three movements, the work is full of charm: dramatic intensity, soaring melodies and gentle lyricism, colorful orchestration, and luminous piano. Hans Bronsart von Schellendorf (1830-1913) was a pianist and composer who studied at the University of Berlin and then with Liszt in Weimar. The Weimar premiere of Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 was performed by Bronsart solo and conducted by Liszt. Bronsart's piano concerto is a breath of late Romanticism, with its technical piano soloism and rich orchestration. Wei, a man of exceptional talent, gives a performance that speaks eloquently.
