Description:

United Strings of Europe's fourth album is about "Night"! United Strings of Europe United Strings of Europe (USE), led by Julien Azcourt, was formed by students of the Royal Academy of Music and began working in 2012. (In Motion)" (BIS SA-2529) was released. The album was described as "a masterful performance and a remarkable program" ("BBC Music Magazine") and "with an enchanting, warm velvet tone" ("The Strad"). He has made several albums for the BIS label, including "Renewal" (BIS SA-2549) and "Tchaikovsky" (BIS SA-2569) with "Serenade for Strings" and "Memories of Florence", both of which were highly acclaimed. His fourth album, "Through the Night," was produced under the concept of "night. The main theme was the idea that night can be a space and time for change and transformation" (Julien Azcourt). six works were programmed, spanning from the 16th century to the 21st century, some 500 years apart. Richard Strauss composed "Metamorphosen" at the end of World War II. This is the first recording of the original for "23 solo string instruments" arranged by violinist Eric Mouret "for 8 violins, 4 violas, 3 cellos, and double bass" in a version that "retains the solemnity and textural variety of the original, while allowing for precise counterpoint" (Azcourt). This is the first recording of the work. Maddalena Caslana's "Morir non puo il miocuore (My heart cannot die)," arranged for "string orchestra with string quartet" by English composer Simon Parkin. Be Still" by Daniel Kidan of England is a piece that "I thought deeply about the 'time' of the passing year" under the lockdown of COVID-19. It is performed by strings and percussion crotales (antique cymbals).Carlo Gesualdo's six-part motet "Tristis est anima mea" (My Soul is Sad to Die), arranged for "string orchestra" by the American composer and violinist Michi Wianoco. Schoenberg's own "Night of Purification" in his "1943 String Orchestra Edition". The aria "Didot's Lament" from Purcell's "Didot and Aeneas" is performed by Leopold Stokowski in a version "transformed into a unique sound". King International
