Description:

Litton plays the piano! The Litton Couple's Works for Viola and Piano SACD Hybrid Edition In the spring of 2020, Androu Litton cancelled a series of concerts due to the rapid spread of the new coronavirus. This meant that Litton had more opportunities to perform at home with his wife, Kantarina Kang Litton, who is the principal viola player for the New York City Ballet. While playing Brahms' sonatas, Litton and his wife decided to record with interest two Viennese composers who were contemporaries of Brahms, Robert Fuchs (1847-1927) and Egon Kornaut (1891-1959), a student of Fuchs'. Hooks' Viola Sonata, which Brahms admired, was written in 1909, and the Fantasy Pieces were written in 1927, his last year. Although Schoenberg and Bartók were active at the beginning of the 20th century, Fuchs' music has an appealing melodic beauty and a refined sound. On the other hand, the Viola Sonata by Kornaut, who was born in Olomouc, now part of the Czech Republic, and was active in Vienna, is a work from 1912.The last song recorded is the Korean folk song "Arirang," which was arranged for the Lytton couple by Stephen Huff, a renowned pianist and composer, as a wedding present for them. Katharina, who has Korean roots, grew up in Germany and studied violin with Rosa Fine at the Robert Schumann University Düsseldorf from the age of 9. She then moved to the United States and studied at the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Pinkus Zuckerman. As a violinist, he has performed as a soloist in major orchestras around the world, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Bergen, Baltimore, Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, New York, and Rio de Janeiro.
