The masterful Alexei Ogrynchuk records the Grand Partita with members of the RCO on this SACD hybrid disc. Alexei Ogrynchuk, principal oboist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, has been actively releasing works on the BIS label, and this album includes Mozart's "Grand Partita" and Beethoven's "Variations on the Theme from Mozart's 'Don Giovanni'. This album includes Mozart's "Grand Partita" and Beethoven's "Variations on a Theme from Mozart's Don Giovanni. The new recording of the "Grand Partita," a large work in seven movements, is a very welcome addition to the repertoire, as it is a well-known work, but can only be performed by a group of virtuoso musicians. Ogrinchuk has been building a steady career in conducting in recent years, and his chamber music ensembles are nothing short of superb. He took on the challenge of a major work while enjoying a musical dialogue with the wind members of the RCO, with whom he has a good rapport. The coupling piece is Beethoven's "Variations on a Theme from Mozart's "Don Giovanni"", which celebrates the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth this year (2020).Mozart written in Beethoven's language is also a real treat to listen to.
