The third release on the BIS label by the Orchestre National de la Loire led by Pascal Roffe is a collection of orchestral works by Roussel & Dukas! This is the third release on the BIS label by the Orchestre National de Loire, the orchestra of the Pays de la Loire region, and its musical director Pascal Roffé, following "Le Loup" (BIS SA-1651), a collection of Dutilleux's works, and "Concerto Works" (BIS SA-2262) by Pascal Dusapin. The three works on this disc are "Brooms, Spiders, and Classical Tragedies." The Sorcerer's Apprentice" was composed by Dukas as a "scherzo for orchestra" based on Goethe's ballad. The "Feast of the Spider," commissioned by Jacques Ruscha and composed by Roussel based on Fabre's "The Book of Insects," which is music for a ballet about insects fighting in a corner of a garden on a summer's day. Ducasse's concert overture "Polleukt," based on Corneille's play about the conversion of pagans to Christianity. The Orchestre National de la Loire de France (ONPL) gave its first concerts in Nantes and Angers in September 1971, conducted by Pierre Delvaux, and has been "national" since 1996.Pascal Roffe studied at the Paris Conservatory and collaborated with Pierre Boulez in the Ensemble Intercontemporain, where he has served as Music Director since 2014.
