Since founding the Bach Collegium Japan (BCJ) in 1990, Masaaki Suzuki has earned a reputation as its music director and as a leading authority on Bach’s music. His complete recordings of J.S. Bach’s church cantatas and secular cantatas with the BCJ are highly acclaimed as a truly world-class achievement. As an organist, Masaaki Suzuki has also made numerous recordings, and his series of Bach organ works, released on the BIS label, has garnered particular attention. Centered on works in the key of “Ha” and chorale preludes in “G major,” this album alternates between major and minor keys and is composed of pieces characterized by the organ’s rich, resonant sound and beautiful melodies. It also includes the famous Passacaglia and Fugue, which demand extremely high levels of technical skill and expressiveness, showcasing an overwhelming performance that only Masaaki Suzuki can deliver.
