Description:
SACD hybrid disc of orchestral works by leading Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho. Kaija Saariaho (1952-) is one of Finland's most internationally known composers. The Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra will release an album of four of her orchestral works, composed after she became based in France, performed by the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Verstoi qui es si loin" for violin and orchestra is an arrangement of the aria from the final act of the opera "L' Amour de loin" (2000), based on a story by the 12th century bard Joffre (Jauchle) Ludel, "Pater Hellestar The work is an arrangement "for Pater Hellestal". The "Circle Map" was composed for "orchestra and electronics" inspired by six poems by the 13th century Persian poet Rumi. The six pieces are Morning Wind, Walls closing, Circles, Daysare sieves, Dialogue, and Day and Night, Music. Rumi's poems, recited by Althea Comte, are processed and interwoven with electronics. Neiges (Snow) was composed for eight cellos, recalling Helsinki in the winter of 1997-1998, when Saariaho was a visiting professor at the Sibelius Academy. The five pieces are Nuages de neige (Snow Clouds), Etoile de neige 1 (Snow Star 1), Etoile de neige 2 (Snow Star 2), Aguillesde glace (Icicle), and Fleurs de neige (Snow Flower). This is the first recording of the "12 cellos version. The Graal Theatre" is the first concerto that Saariaho has ever performed. Commissioned by the BBC and Vara Radio4 in the Netherlands, it was premiered by Gidon Kremer.Taking its name from Jacques Lebeau's book "GraalTheatre," the piece is in two movements, "Delicato" (Delicately) and "Impetuoso" (Furiously), reflecting the introverted, sacred character of "Graa" (the Holy Grail) and the outgoing, theatrical character of "theater" (the theater). The Norwegian violinist, Klaus Kreisler, is a member of the orchestra. Norwegian violinist Pater Hellestar (1970-) focuses his repertoire on contemporary works, including Nouagor's Violin Concerto (BIS 1872) and the Valine and Buene concertos (BIS SA 2242), which he recorded for the BIS label. Saariaho's "Graal Theatre" (Grail Theatre) has been performed more than 15 times in Europe and the United States between 2016 and 2019. Conductor Clément Mao-Takachu studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Musique et de Danse de Paris and the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, where he is also a pianist and composer. She is regarded as a specialist in her music, having conducted the premieres of Saariaho's works, including chamber versions of La Passion de Simone and La Passion de Simone.
