Description:

The Norwegian Soloist Choir sings a collection of choral works after Berio's name was established on the contemporary music scene!SACD hybrid disc. Luciano Berio, along with Luigi NONO, Franco DONATONI, and Bruno MADERNA, is widely regarded as one of the generation of Italian modernists who showed the internationality of Italian modernism that came to prominence after World War II. The Norwegian Soloist Choir and Grete Pedersen, whose albums including J.S. Bach's "Motets" (BIS SA 2251) have all been highly acclaimed, will perform Berio's works. Koro" and "The Call of London. The two pieces were written between 1973 and 1977, after Berio's name was firmly established on the contemporary music scene. The "Coro" was written for 10 sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses, and 44 instrumentalists (14 strings, 15 woodwinds, 11 brass, 2 percussion, piano, and electronic organ), and is officially titled "Coro for Voice and Instruments.Poems by unnamed writers from various countries and races and poems from Chilean poet Pablo Neruda's "Dwelling Place on Earth" were used as texts, from "Today is mine...Wake up, woman, reise up, woman (Today is mine...Wake up, woman, reise up, woman)" to "Spin, colours, spin...El dia palido se asoma (Turn, colours, spin...)". (Wake up, woman, reise up, woman)" to "Spin, colors, spin...El dia palido se asoma (Spin, colors, spin...The pale day will appear)". In order to maximize the blending of the different vocal and instrumental timbres, the musicians are arranged in "four tiers," with the first soprano and first flute to the left of the conductor, the eighth soprano and first violin to his left, and so on. The "London Call" is a seven-part work based on the famous "London call" made by street vendors to passersby. After the success of "Sinfonia," he composed this piece for the King's Singers, an English male voice group whose repertoire includes cabaret songs, madrigals, and partsongs. The Norwegian Soloist Choir sings in the 1975 revised edition of Eight Singers. King International
