Description:

A "tribute" album commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ingmar Bergman, one of Sweden's most celebrated world-famous film directors, on SACD hybrid disc. Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007) worked as a director, screenwriter, producer, and writer in film, television, radio broadcasting, and theater. His films of the 1950s, such as "Monika the Delinquent," "Three Smiles a Summer Night," "The Seventh Seal," and "Wild Strawberries," won him international acclaim and earned him the reputation as one of Sweden's leading film directors. This disc is a "tribute" album produced by Swedish musicians to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Bergman's birth. If he had not become a film and theater director, he would have wanted to be a conductor," Bergman always said, and classical music, along with silence, was an important element of expression in his works, not only in the film adaptations of his operas such as The Magic Flute for the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation. In "Music in the Dark" and "Autumn Sonata," the pianist is the protagonist, and in "Till gladije/To joy," the violinist is the protagonist. In "Summer Nights Smile Three Times," one of the characters, Henryk, plays the cello, and in Bergman's last dramatic work, "Sarabande," the hero is listening to Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 at high volume. This album, the brainchild of Roland Penttinen, features him playing piano pieces by Schumann and Chopin, and his friend Turleif Thedéen playing "Sarabande" from Bach's Suite for Unaccompanied Cello. Penttinen and the Stenhammar Quartet play a movement from Schumann's Piano Quintet at the end. King International
