Includes world premiere recordings of his works! SACD hybrid disc of piano works by Greek composer Skalkottas. A collection of piano works by Greek composer Nikos Skalkottas. Born in 1904 in Halkis, Evia, Skalkottas moved with his family to Athens when he was 2 years old and started learning the violin at the age of 5. In 1921, he went to Berlin to study violin, but gave up his future as a violinist to concentrate on composition. In 1949, at the age of 45, he died in Athens. The album entitled "From Berlin to Athens" contains piano works composed in Berlin and Athens. The album includes the Sonatina and 15 small variations, which are representative works from his Berlin period, and the masterpiece suite from his later years in Athens, which is indispensable to the story of Skalkottas. It is also a pleasure to include the Greek Suite, which was recorded for the first time in the world.Performed by Lorenda Ramow, who also released Ballet Music for Piano by Skalkottas (BIS 1564). 87 minutes long.
