The third recording of Satie's complete works for piano solo by Noriko Ogawa is "Vexation"! The recording. Following the first recording (KKC 5644 / BIS SA 2215) and the second (KKC 5719 / BIS SA 2225), which received rave reviews in various magazines, this third recording includes "Vexation" by Erik Satie (1866-1925), who was active in France from the late 19th to early 20th century. In 1905, he studied composition under Dandy at the Schola Cantorum in order to relearn how to compose. As his fame as a composer grew, he attracted the attention and friendship of prominent artists such as Jean Cocteau and Picasso. He soon created a world of his own and pursued the satirical nature of his themes as well as the uninhibited and unrestrained expression of pure musical sensibility.The "Vexation" on this disc is an odd piece that is said to be 840 repetitions of a one-minute piece, and was premiered by John Cage and others in September 1963, with ten pianists and two assistants who began playing at 6:00 p.m. and continued until 12:40 p.m. the following day. This recording contains 142 pieces. This recording contains 142 vexations. The recording was made in August 2018 in a studio session at the Tokyo College of Music, where Satie is currently a professor. The instrument used is an 1890 Erard piano, the same instrument used by Satie when she composed many of her piano pieces.
