Masaaki Suzuki recorded the Toccata collection in full! SACD hybrid disc. Masaaki Suzuki's latest harpsichord performance is a collection of Bach's Toccatas, following the well-received English Suites (KKC 6159 / BIS SA 2281). There are seven Toccatas for harpsichord in total, and they are thought to have been composed between 1706 and 1709, from the end of the Altstadt period to the beginning of the Weimar period. The style is full of free expressive impulses, and the works carry the vigor of Bach's youth after his Buxtehude experience. This is a remarkable recording by Masaaki Suzuki, an authority on Bach. The instrumentation is a replica of the Lückers harpsichord used in the complete concertos for two harpsichords (KKC 5496/ BIS SA 2051) and the complete English Suites, produced by Willem Krusbergen in 1982, and the free and graceful expression of the music is impressive.Masaaki Suzuki's harpsichord performances of Bach's solo works include the Mean Clavier Works, Volume 1 (1996 recording / BIS 813), Goltberg Variations (1997 recording / BIS 819), Inventions and Sinfonias (1998 recording / BIS 1009), Fantasias and Fugues (1998 1037), French Suites (1999-2001 / BIS 1113), Six Partitas (2001 / BIS 1313), Italian Concertos, French Overtures, etc. (2002 / BIS 1469), The Mean Clavier Works Volume 2 (2005 / BIS 1513), and English Suites, all of which have been released to critical acclaim.
