This is a surprise! Masaaki Suzuki performs with Tapiola Sinfonietta. Masaaki Suzuki recorded Stravinsky's works from the neoclassical period! Masaaki Suzuki, who has gained fame as the Music Director of the Bach Collegium Japan since he founded the organization in 1990, recorded Stravinsky's works with Tapiola Sinfonietta! Masaaki Suzuki is one of the leading composers of J.S. Bach, but in recent years he has been performing a variety of repertoire with other ensembles besides the BCJ. In October 2010, Masaaki Suzuki performed Mahler's Giant at the subscription concert of the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, and his clear, non-vibrato performance attracted much attention. In June 2016, she will perform Saint-Saens' Symphony No. 3 "with Organ" (organ by Yuto Suzuki) with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. The performance is highly anticipated. The ballet music "Pulcinella" was commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev, the organizer of the Russian Ballet.The original piece was a harpsichord piece by Pergolesi, the first of Stravinsky's distinctly neoclassical works. The Pulcinella Suite is a 1949 revision of the ballet music for chamber winds. The ballet music "Apollo, the Muse," commissioned for the Contemporary Music Festival sponsored by the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., is representative of his thoroughgoing neoclassical approach. Concerto for Strings in D was commissioned to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Basel Chamber Orchestra, and is an impressive work that floats from D major to D minor.
