Description:

Emil Eunason performs Lindberg's Clarinet Concerto on SACD Hybrid. This is the first solo album by Swedish clarinetist Emil Eunason on the BIS label. Christian Lindberg's "Mr. Grønstedt's Extraordinary Dream" was commissioned by the Swedish financier and industrialist Anders Wahl's foundation, which awarded him a scholarship. Known for his unique sense of "humor," Lindberg imagined the setting as an "ordinary dream" of a "very ordinary man" in a bow tie and checkered blazer, and composed "Saturn's Mirror," "Mr. Grønstedt dresses for a spring ball," "Lisa and the Magic Cape," and "The Lost City. In 2013, Eunason made his U.S. debut at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, where he premiered the piece with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. The work was premiered with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra after his U.S. debut at the Cabrillo Contemporary Music Festival in 2013. Osvaldo Golijov is an Argentine composer. He was born in La Plata to an Eastern European Jewish family and grew up surrounded by classical chamber music, Jewish music and the New Tango of Klezmer and Astor Piazzolla. After studying at the Israeli School of Music, he studied with George Crumb at the University of Pennsylvania and Oliver Nassen at Tanglewood. His "Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind," for string quartet and klezmer clarinet with different notation, takes its title from the name of a 12th- and 13th-century rabbi who studied Kabbalah in Provence. The piece consists of three parts: "Prelude," "Part 1," "Part 2," "Part 3: K'vakarat," and "Postlude. The first piece, "K'vakarat" (Part 3), is a clarinet version of the "cantor" music written for the Kronos Quartet and Misha Alexandrovich. The Vamlingboo Quartet, which will perform with Eunason, is an ensemble of players who studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Formed during their studies at a festival held at Vamlingboo Church on Gotland Island, off the coast of Stockholm, the quartet has been active on the Swedish music scene. (1/2) King International
