The second Mozart release by BCJ is the Mass in C minor, K.427 and the motet "Dance, Rejoice, O Blessed Souls", K.165. The second release is Mozart's Mass in C minor, K.427 and the motet "Dance, Rejoice, O Blessed Souls," K.165, both of which are considered the most beautiful of Mozart's numerous religious works. The unfinished Mass in C minor, or "Great Mass," K.165, with a playing time of over 50 minutes, was Mozart's first church music after he moved to Vienna in 1781, and is the largest unfinished work of his career. It is believed to have originated from Mozart's personal vow to dedicate the new work to his native church, should his marriage to Konstance, whom his father disapproved of, come true and if he could visit Salzburg with her. The motet "Dance, rejoice, O blessed soul," K. 165 was written during Mozart's third and last trip to Italy.Although the Latin text sings praises to God, the music is not so much church music as it is an attempt to highlight the gorgeous movements of the coloratura and to appreciate the beauty of the singers' voices. The soloists Carolyn Sampson, Ryo Sakurada, and Christiane Imler followed the Requiem. Mezzo-soprano Olivia Fairmullen, with her beautiful singing, has also joined the ensemble, adding even more color to the performance. King International Inc.
