Following Romeo and Juliet (BISSA1301), Piano Concerto with Freddy Kemp (BISSA1820), and Symphony No. 6 (BISSA1994), the fourth release in this series features Symphony No. 5 and the Scythian Suite "Ara and Lolly". Symphony No. 5 was composed in 1944 and premiered in 1945 at the Great Concert Hall of the Moscow State Conservatory under the baton of Prokofiev, and was broadcast live throughout the Soviet Union from the moment the 20 congratulatory shots were sounded.On the other hand, the Scythian Suite "Ara and Lolly" is a reworking of the ballet music "Ara and Lolly" composed at Diaghilev's request into an orchestral suite "Scythian Suite" for concert use. Litton's conducting is gorgeous, and this recording also offers the full range of Prokofiev's colorful orchestral sound. King International
