Master musician Martin Frest’s latest album features works by Brahms. The program centers on the masterpiece Clarinet Quintet, along with six songs selected and arranged by Frest, and the Clarinet Trio. The star-studded lineup is once again a highlight of this recording. For the Quintet, a brilliant ensemble of talents has gathered, including Janine Jansen—who also performed on the previous Mozart album (BISSA1893/KKC5372)—and the brilliant violist Maxim Lisanoff. They deliver an exquisite ensemble performance. Additionally, the collection titled “Six Songs” features six works selected and arranged by Frest himself from Brahms’s song cycles. Thanks to Frest’s virtuosity, the music is rendered as if it were being sung. A superb collection of Brahms’s clarinet works has been completed!
