SACD hybrid disc of Britten's string ensembles, which also includes the world premiere recording of "Elegy - for Strings". The BIS label has been ambitiously recording Britten's works. This album is a collection of string ensembles, featuring the Simple Symphony Op.4 and Variations on a Theme by Frank Bridge, as well as Lacryme and Two Portraits, with violaist Catherine Brock as soloist. The Elegy for Strings is a world premiere recording. The Simple Symphony is an adaptation from an early study piano piece written between 1923-26, and has become one of Britten's most performed pieces in recent years. This is a piece that offers a unique atmosphere unique to Britten. King International
