This is truly the Horowitz of the 21st century! Sudbin's long-awaited Japan tour was realized this October. He is a virtuoso of the 19th century, with a terrific technique, a musicality and aura that captivates audiences just by playing scales, and arranging his own music. This album also conveys the full range of Sudobin's charm. The Liszt works are performed with great gusto and narrative skill, and the performance is a real treat to listen to. Ravel's "Gaspard de l'Oeil" is also an extremely difficult piece, but Sudobin, who has no technical problems, beautifully recreates the shimmering tonal changes and the monstrous story. Sudobin's version of Liszt's arrangement of the "Dance of Death" is even more effective, and the audience is treated to a devilishly enjoyable piano music that does not damage the reputation of being "Horowitz revisited.
