A world of beauty reminiscent of English pastoral poetry, created by three victims of war SACD hybrid disc. This collection features works by three British composers who fell victim to World War I. George Butterworth (1885–1916), though highly promising, was shot by a sniper during the Battle of the Somme and died in action at the young age of 31. Ivor Garnett (1890–1937), who also displayed talent as a poet, suffered from mental illness due to the aftereffects of inhaling poison gas on the French front and spent the latter half of his life in a mental hospital. Vaughan Williams suffered hearing loss from artillery fire while serving in the military, which later cast a shadow over his life. James Rutherford, a brilliant young British singer who has made a name for himself as a Wagnerian, beautifully brings their art songs to life.
