This collection of divertimenti by the Haydn Sinfonietta Vienna was originally released on the Koch-Schwan label and is rumored to command high prices on the secondhand market today. It is being reissued by BIS at a great value. Naturally, BIS has put its best effort into remastering it. Additionally, several new recordings have been added, making this a 5-disc set. It’s a real treat to have Simon Standage performing the solos. Many of these early works are brimming with youthful vigor and exuberance, and the collection is filled with the wholesome, gentle music that is so characteristic of Haydn. It’s also the ultimate in soothing music. Highly recommended. King International
