The Complete Works for Flute and Guitar by Giuliani, the Renowned Guitarist The complete works for flute and guitar composed by Mauro Giuliani—a renowned guitarist and composer—are now available in a special value set. Giuliani was born in Italy in 1781. After studying cello and counterpoint, he came to regard the six-string guitar as his primary instrument. However, since the general public at the time had little interest in music other than opera, he settled in Vienna in 1806 to make a living. He quickly became famous as the finest guitarist of his time and as an outstanding composer, but it is said that on December 8, 1813, Giuliani played the cello at the premiere of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 alongside Vienna’s most famous performers, including Hummel, Meissner, and Spohr, and continued to perform frequently thereafter. He later settled in Naples and became famous in his later years for his performances on the lyre guitar. His works for flute and guitar feature beautiful, melodic lines characteristic of Italy, creating music that is truly delightful. Furthermore, the distinctive early BIS label recordings—which resonate gently within a church setting—demonstrate that they were once again produced by an exceptional recording engineer.
