Bach’s Solo Keyboard Works is the fifth collection of Clavier Sonatas with Rondos and Free Fantasies, intended for both experts and enthusiasts. When recording began, Spani remarked, “Realizing a complete collection is by no means a simple task, especially when it includes works by early composers. In this series, we present all of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s unquestionably authentic works for solo keyboard and accompanied ensemble. Since our goal is to provide a comprehensive overview of the interpretive possibilities for these works, this recording is based on a thorough study of the extant sources and authentic performance practices. “We have selected and performed on instruments that are ‘authentic’ based on the original sources,” he states, and indeed, the performances are grounded in a genuine, authentic interpretation.
