Volume 30 of the Complete Solo Keyboard Works of C.P.E. Bach is a collection of “easy clavichord pieces with varying recitatives and fingering instructions for beginners,” along with other short pieces. The performer is Miklós Spani, who has been part of the series since its inception. When recording began, Spani remarked, “Realizing a complete collection is by no means a simple task, especially when it includes works by early composers. In this series, we present all of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s indisputably authentic works for solo keyboard and accompanied ensemble. Since our goal is to provide a comprehensive overview of the interpretive possibilities for these works, this recording is based on a thorough study of the extant sources and authentic performance practices. “We have selected and performed on instruments that are ‘authentic’ based on the original sources,” they state, and the performances are indeed based on genuine, authentic interpretations.
