Description:
Virtual Dream Space is back again, a sequel to "VIRTUAL DREAMS", the much talked-about ambient techno compilation by MUSIC FROM MEMORY! The second volume is a 2-CD compilation on the theme of Japanese ambient techno from the 90s. Most of the tracks on this CD set were previously only available on CD, and the CD version includes a bonus track. MFM announced the important compilation "VIRTUAL DREAMS" at the end of 2020, during the pandemic period. Artificial Intelligence" (AI), which advocates techno as electronic music to be enjoyed in the bedroom, was born as a form of distancing itself from the height of rave. Or. Virtual Sex," which is a sound image of the inner orientation and sexual impulses of Detroit techno in a virtual space.Influenced by these IDM techno and bedroom techno of the early 90s, the Japanese scene continued to develop in its own unique way. On the major label side, Denki Groove fused early JPOP and techno, while on the club scene, Susumu Yokota and Ken Ishii signed with overseas labels and imported their music back to Japan. In conjunction with their activities, labels such as Sublime Records, Transonic Records, Syzygy Records, Frogman Records, and Form@ Records started up one after another, delighting techno listeners of the time. As techno as club music developed, with the opening of MANIAC LOVE in Aoyama in 1993 and Liquid Room in Shinjuku in 1994, experiments in the bedroom also developed, centering on the aforementioned labels. The fact that the small budget works produced in the bedrooms were handled by specialty stores such as Cisco to major record stores was literally a golden age, in the sense that the possibilities for the depth of the music were expanding. The songs for this album were selected by Eiji Taniguchi, who runs the Osaka record store REVELATION TIME and has selected songs for Dream Dolphin and HEISEI NO OTO at MFM, and Jamie Tiller, the founder of MFM and a rare music explorer who passed away suddenly at the end of 2023. who passed away suddenly at the end of 2023. This will be Jamie's last project before his death, and he has researched, planned, and compiled many works in Japan that fit the concept of VIRTUAL DREAMS. The artwork is by Kenta Senekt, a Kyoto native who mainly paints live, and the design is by Amsterdam-based Steele Bonus, who has designed for MFM and SAFE TRIP labels. Liner notes by Tadasu Mita are included.
