Don Giovanni" by Meta and mid-career and young singers! A remarkable recording of "Don Giovanni" is now available! This is a live recording of a concert-style performance given in Tel Aviv by Zubin Mehta, the lifetime music director of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. What is remarkable is that it features a collection of mid-career and up-and-coming singers who are currently very active. The title role is played by Nicola Ulivieri, a bass-baritone born in Arco, Northern Italy. He specializes in Rossini. His beautiful voice, which resonates brightly and cheerfully, was also well-received in the "Boheme" in 2010 when he visited Japan for a performance at the Teatro Regio Trino. Maurizio Muraro of Leporello is the most experienced of the group. Born in Como, Italy, near the Swiss border, he has been very active as Basso Buffo since the late 1990s and sang Leporello at the 2004 Vienna State Opera in Japan, opposite Thomas Hampson and Edita Gruberova.Dimitri Kolchak, Don Ottervio, was born in Moscow in 1979. Although still in his early thirties, he has already established an international reputation, especially for his Rossini and Mozart. Zerlina Chen Rice was born in Israel. She has a beautiful voice and good looks, and her popularity has rapidly increased in recent years. Maria Luigia Borsi, Donna Elvira, is an Italian soprano who has only been performing for about 10 years, but is still very popular, and is sure to be a prima donna of the 2010s. Simone Orfila of Masetto was born in 1976 in Manorca, Spain. He has an imposing bass voice and sang Orovezo in a concert-style performance in Tokyo in 2003, when that Gruberova sang Norma for the first time. Marco Spotti, the knight-in-chief, is from Parma. He is a young but very grave bass, and has sung bass roles in Verdi.Anna Samuil, Donna Anna, was born in Perm, Russia. She is another young singer who started her career after 2000 and is currently active in Germany, mainly with the Berlin State Opera. Recently, even when there are rare opportunities to record operas, the priority is given to well-known veteran singers, so there are limited opportunities to hear these excellent middle- to young-career singers.
