Robert Lorta’s Chopin: A Revival of Classic French Pianism Robert Lorta was a pianist born in Paris on September 12, 1885. He studied under Louis Dième at the Paris Conservatory. He made his Paris debut in 1910; although his career was interrupted by World War I, he made his comeback in 1916 with a concert tour in the United States. He passed away at the young age of 53 and is now largely forgotten, but he was particularly renowned for his performances of Fauré; he premiered the Piano Quintet No. 2 with the Eccan Quartet to great acclaim. Furthermore, most of his recordings were made in the late 1920s, and the Chopin performances included in this release comprise his entire recorded output. Although these recordings were previously available, they have long been out of print, making this album a long-awaited reissue. Lorta’s piano playing is characterized by a lively performance that combines a classic French touch—notable for its transparency, elegance, and delicacy—with a dynamic and passionate side. This album allows listeners to fully appreciate Lorta’s French pianism, which was once held in equal esteem alongside that of Cortot. King International
