Description:

"Anne-Sophie Mutter's lifelong teacher" Ida Stucki plays a collection of Mozart recordings "My special teacher has been an inspiration to me throughout my life." -Anne-Sophie Mutter Born in Cairo in 1921, Ida Stucki is a Swiss violinist. The name Ida was given to her by her Sicilian-born mother, who had a beautiful voice and loved Italian opera. She first studied with the German conductor and violinist Ernst Walters. She also studied with Carl Flesch and with Steffi Geyer, who was a close friend of Bartók. In addition to his activities as a soloist, Stucki has performed chamber music with Clara Haskil and has formed a duo with Pina Pozzi, but it is his student Anne-Sophie Mutter who has made a strong impression on us.In a letter signed by Mutter to DOREMI label organizer Jacob Harnoy, which paved the way for this CD release, he states. "Ida Stucki's reputation as an artist is both inescapable and belated. Her artistic prowess is timeless and inspirational. Her interpretations contain captivating tones as well as her personal instincts tied to a deep insight into the composer's aspirations. I heartily commend this great violinist. These recordings are a must for all string players and music lovers." Nothing could be more accurate when describing Stucki. It is a pleasure to have the complete concertos on CD, including the period recordings (Nos. 1, 2, and 7) and the live recordings, as well as 16 sonatas, all by Mozart. I had never heard Mutter as a violinist as much as he said he would. Why not take this opportunity to find out? [Comments courtesy of King International.]
