Wispelwey / Chopin "Cello Waltzes" Opening with "Grande Valse Brillante," masterfully arranged by Davydov, this album brings together a collection of Chopin’s piano works arranged for cello and piano. Other arrangers include Glazunov, Piatigorsky, and Wispelwey himself. Chopin’s melancholic melodies pair exceptionally well with the cello, and combined with the technically intricate arrangements and the performances that bring them to life, this makes for a truly rewarding listening experience. The fact that a certain piece is repeated once more at the end, labeled “Encore,” also creates a pleasant, lingering afterglow.
