Prokofiev’s “Violin Sonata No. 1” has been reborn as a flute sonata! Prokofiev’s Flute Sonata is a challenging yet accessible piece that has become an important part of the repertoire. However, at Oistrakh’s request, it was revised the year after its composition to become “Violin Sonata No. 2,” which is also very popular. Montreal-born flutist Ariane Brisson has attempted the reverse, arranging Prokofiev’s “Violin Sonata No. 1” for flute.
