Description:
A collection of church music from "Nouvelle-France" Canada during the French colonial period. At the time when customs similar to those in the French homeland were brought to the new continent of Canada, religious ceremonies and accompanying music were also brought to play a central role in society. This CD contains church music based on documents discovered in Canada at that time. Of particular note are the chants of Joffrois, Campra, and a chant of unknown authorship. At first glance, they sound like ordinary chants, but the language in which they are sung is the language of the Abenaki tribe, a Native American tribe. These chants, which were translated into local languages for missionary purposes, seem to symbolize an era in which Christianity spread with the development of nautical technology. The performance will be given by the Montreal Ancient Music Studio, renowned as a pioneer of ancient music performance in North America. The brilliant voice of the singer invites the listener to a supreme time. Both the performance and the content of the recording are worth a listen, and this is a must for fans of old music.
