Two years after their last album, which reached #2 in the UK and was nominated for a Grammy/Brit Award, Fonteynes D.C. has completed a new album. Released their third album "Skinty Fia", which questions their own identity as Irish. Working with producer Dan Carey for the third time, the album follows their second album "A Hero's Death" from 2020, which reached #2 in the UK and was nominated for a Brit Award and a Grammy. The band first gained international attention when their debut album, Dogrel, released in 2019, became one of the most acclaimed albums of the year and was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize. Since then, they have been recognized as one of the freshest and most exciting young bands of the last few years, with nominations for BRITS (Best International Group), GRAMMY (Best Rock Album) and Ivor Novello Awards (Best Album). After the band returned from the pandemic lockdown and sold out all 10,000 tickets at London's Alexandra Palace before finishing work on "Skinty Fia". Skinty Fia" is an Irish song that translates to "the damnation of the deer" in English. The album cover depicts a deer taken from its natural habitat and left in the hallway of a house lit by artificial red light. The big deer is an extinct species in Ireland, and the band's thoughts on Irish identity are central to Skinty Fia.While "Dogrel" is littered with snapshots of Dublin characters (such as the cab driver in "Boys In The Better Land") and "A Hero's Death" documents the alienation and disconnection the band felt as they toured the world, Fonteynes D.C. D.C. stands for "Dublin City," and for a band whose hometown runs through their veins, this album is an attempt to resolve the need to expand their horizons and their love for the land and people they left behind. It is an album that shows the band's need to broaden their horizons and resolve their love for the land and people they have left behind. The rough rock and roll of "Dogrel" and the bleakness of "A Hero's Death" are present on "Skinty Fia. But this third album in the trilogy is more expansive and cinematic. Fontaines D.C. is a band that is constantly evolving. As a result, "Skinty Fia" is a highly emotive work that encompasses shifting moods, surprising insights, maturity, and more.
