The ensemble’s members are top-tier soloists who perform on period instruments in European orchestras. Although 18th-century Russian musical life is generally considered uncharted territory, music played a significant role at the court of Catherine the Great, just as it did at other European courts. Unfortunately, a considerable number of scores have not been preserved or have been lost; however, as a result of meticulous research, several pieces of music have been rediscovered. This album brings together chamber music by foreign composers invited to Moscow, allowing listeners to discover surprisingly excellent works by composers such as Kerzelli and Facius.
