Description:

A rare and previously unreleased album of rare and previously unreleased recordings from Copenhagen, Denmark in 1958 by Duke Ellington, the master of swing jazz who has left his mark on music history! A supreme piece of music that proves Ellington's enduring musical legacy. This release, Copenhagen 1958 (Bonus: After Hours 1950), offers a glimpse into Ellington's genius at a pivotal time in jazz history. The recordings include the concert soundtracks. Opening with Ellington's signature song, "Let's Take the A Train," each song showcases the orchestra's talent and Ellington's innovative compositions, from the vibrant energy of "Newport Up" to the soulful number "My Funny Valentine."Also included are bonus tracks from an after-hours performance in 1950: three songs from a jam session at the "St. Thomas" dance restaurant in Copenhagen and two Ellington solos recorded at a charity event in Aarhus, Denmark. The album is a condensed version of the great sound of the orchestra in the late 50's, with a mix of veterans like Johnny Hodges and Harry Carney, and modernists like Jimmy Hamilton, Clark Terry, and Paul Gonsalves.メンバー:November 7, 1958: Duke Ellington (p), Cat Anderson & Harold Baker (tp), Clark Terry (tp, flgh),Ray Nance (tp, vi), Britt Woodman, Quentin Jackson & John Sanders (tb),Paul Gonsalves (ts), Jimmy Hamilton (cl, ts), Johnny Hodges (as),Russell Procope (as, cl), Harry Carney (brs, cl, b-cl), Jimmy Woode (b),Sam Woodyard (dm) & Ozzie Bailey (vo)May 31, 1950: Duke Ellington (p), Don Byas (ts) & Jimmy Hamilton (cl)June 6, 1950: Duke Ellington (p)Recording: KB Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark, November 7,1958, and St. Thomas, Copenhagen, Denmark, May 31,1950, and Aarhus, Denmark, June 6, 1950
