Pablo Murgier, a pianist/composer born in La Plata, Argentina, now living and working in Paris, 2022 is the long-awaited first album of his main project, Pablo Murgier Ensemble! Pablo has been active in numerous tango groups, including SEXTETO MURGIER and AZIMUT with Japanese violinist Machiko Ozawa, but this album, his first as a leader, is an attempt to fuse tango and contemporary jazz. Pablo is a musician in the same vein as the Argentine master Diego Schicchi. In addition to Pablo on piano, the band is joined by Minino Garay, a longtime French drummer/percussionist from Argentina who has played with artists ranging from Mercedes Sosa to Hermeto Pascoal and Magic Malik, and whose latest album was released on the prestigious US label SUNNYSIDE. He has released his latest album on the prestigious SUNNYSIDE label in the U.S.The four-piece ensemble was joined by French bassist Romain Lecuyer and Italian bandoneon player Simone Tolomeo. Guests include French-Canadian trumpet player Rachel Therrien, French jazz and chanson singer Vanina de Franco, and the aforementioned Machiko Ozawa on violin. The ensemble's possibilities are further expanded. It is no exaggeration to say that this contemporary tango work is representative of the 2020s, incorporating the techniques and essence of contemporary jazz and tango, as well as elements of folklore.
