Description:

Ana Frango Eletrico, Ava Hoxha, Barra Desejo, Antonio Nevis, Thiago Nasif... Rio de Janeiro became the capital of Brazil in 1763, and even after its independence in 1822, the city continued to flourish as the country's cultural and economic center. Focusing on music, the city's urban elite of European descent, freed slaves of African descent, and migrant workers from the countryside interacted with each other and fostered their own unique music. Major record companies and mass media were also based in Rio, and choro, samba, bossa nova, tropicália, and MPB were all born in Rio and transmitted throughout Brazil. However, with the relocation of the capital to Brasilia in 1960 and the gradual shift of the economic center to São Paulo, the music industry in Brazil also became centered in São Paulo.Rio's economy cooled after the 2016 global sporting event, and the city had become a tough place for musicians to live, but in the past few years, the city has seen a blinding revival. This groundbreaking compilation captures the current music scene in Rio. It is supervised by Sound and Colours, a website that disseminates Latin American music and culture to the world, and features Ava Hocha, the daughter of Graubel Hocha, the film director who led the Brazilian version of the New Wave, and Antonio Nevis, a rising star in the Brazilian jazz scene, In addition to the talents introduced in Japan, such as Thiago Nasif, known for his collaboration with Cornelius in Japan, Ana Frango Eletrico, who is becoming an icon in the Rio indie scene, and Barra Desejo, who won a Latin Grammy Award last year for her production, the festival will also include a performance by the Brazilian jazz star Antonio Nevis, and a performance by the Brazilian jazz star Bobby Bogart, who is also a member of the Brazilian jazz group Bogart. The album also includes a wide variety of Rio's unique music scene, including bossa nova, samba, candomblé, lo-fi, garage, psychedelic, avant-garde, jazz, funk, etc., which has produced these artists. The artwork is by Caio Paiva, who has worked on many musical productions in the region. This compilation is a must-have for those who want to grasp the current music scene in Rio, which is expected to lead Brazilian music in the 2020s.
