Alessandrini Releases His First Solo Harpsichord CD in a Long Time! Alessandrini has released his first solo harpsichord CD in a long time (his first in five years since Frescobaldi [OP.30468]). It features preludes and fugues by J.S. Bach. Although the preludes and fugues included here were originally composed separately, Alessandrini has arranged them into pairs based on key and character (including some that were originally paired, such as BWV 870a, 895, 900, and 902). The program unfolds through a total of 15 new pairings. While these are excellent works when listened to individually, hearing the “Preludes” and “Fugues” arranged in this systematic way opens up a whole new world. This is a wonderful album featuring Alessandrini’s inspired harpsichord playing. Alessandrini was born in 1960. He is a virtuoso who masterfully plays the harpsichord, fortepiano, and organ, and is also the founder of the renowned ensemble, Concerto Italiano. He has been active in the early music scene for over 20 years and is a prodigious talent who, particularly in his performances of 17th- and 18th-century Italian music, fully brings out the cantabile qualities unique to an Italian artist. In recent years, he has appeared not only on the early music scene but also as a guest conductor with modern orchestras, continually expanding the scope of his activities. King International
