The Nynorsk Brass Quintet (New Norway Brass Quintet) was formed by trumpeters Erlén Ågår-Nilsen and Jørgen Arnesen, horn player Daniel Weisset Sjöresvik, trombonist Ingebjörg Bruket, and tuba player Bergel Evel Feder formed the group, which performed its debut concert in 2016 and since then has continued its activities with genre-bending projects focusing on Norwegian music of the "now". The album "Hornflower" is the result of their collaboration with Nils Henrik Asheim. Two pieces were commissioned by the Nynorsk Brass Quintet. The Singing Stone is based on a fragment of a five-voice version of Luther's chorale "We God is a Steadfast Fortress" by Stefan Mahieu (c.1480-1541). Hornflower is a "botanical sketchbook with music," a collection of 22 episodes named after flowers found in the Norwegian mountains, from "Alchemilla alpina" to "Ezo chicago. Burning Ice," commissioned by Arctic Brass, is "an image of movement in a frozen state.Scream Soft is a piece for tuba and percussion. The tuba player also uses a looping station and electrical effects, and plays with a special technique in which he speaks and sings. Grieg's Chords" was first composed in 1993, the 150th anniversary of Grieg's birth. Based on the melody of "Saulvey's Song" from "Peer Gynt," it was written as a "cluster" music for 12 brass players and harp, and was premiered at the Christiansen Chamber Music Festival. On this album, a version heavily modified by Asheim is performed as the opening piece for the 2007 concert in Tromsø marking the 100th anniversary of Grieg's death. Tokyo M-Plus
