Scandinavia's leading mezzo-soprano, Marianne Beate Schelan! Mezzo-soprano Marianne Beate Schelan (Kieland) and pianist Mottensen collaborate on a series of Norwegian songs. The new album features works by Gisle Kverndok (1967-), known primarily for her music for opera and musicals. The works are based on the Norwegian poet Liv Holzskog's "How Short Our Summer" and poems by Hermann Wildenvej. Ruth Meyer's "In Memory of Ruth Meyer," composed from the diary of a Jewish woman who fled Austria to Norway during World War II and was sent to Auschwitz. Only the Dragon is Free," from music composed by Kverndorg for the musical "Around the World in Eighty Days. And a collection of songs based on the text of William Shakespeare's "Sonnets," in which William Shakespeare celebrated themes of love, eroticism, and jealousy, which also inspired many Nordic composers.
