Description:
Norwegian Master Bente Illervoll A collection of contemporary works that explore the possibilities of the euphonium! Norwegian euphonium player Bente Ilevold, who is active as an international soloist and educator, presents her first solo album—a collection of works that explores the potential of the euphonium through collaborations with electronic sounds and percussion. How can a path be forged between the natural beauty of Illevold’s hometown, Røndalen, and its traditional music? Five composers took on this challenge. Two of the nine works they composed specifically for the euphonium are performed on this album. René Lepne and Sweden’s Ludwig Erblaus reimagined the old folk song “Unparalleled Stupidity” as a “new composition.” *DSDHT* (Den Største Darlighet) is a duet for euphonium and “fixed media”—a recording of a singer’s voice processed into electronic sounds. Björn Kruse’s *Bom=Bombardino*, whose title combines “Bombardino”—one of the Italian names for the euphonium—with the percussion sound “Bom,” is a piece based on traditional tunes found in Ole Mork ’s *Music of Osterdalen*. His collaborator, Anders Kregnes Hansen (b. 1983), studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music—the same institution as Ilevol—and earned his master’s degree with a thesis on “Composers and Performers in Creative Collaboration.” He is active in the field of contemporary music, primarily as a chamber musician with ensembles such as “Aksom” and the Oslo Sinfonietta. The beautiful tone and wide range of expression produced by the euphonium from S.E. Shires—a brass instrument manufacturer currently attracting attention from professional musicians worldwide—are a must-hear for euphonium players and anyone involved in the world of wind instruments!
