Ricardo Nordorok (1842-1866) is best known as the composer of the Norwegian national anthem. He was a cousin of the poet Bjørnschen Bjørnson and a close friend of Edvard Grieg. Inheriting the heart and spirit of Ole Bleu and aspiring to create "Norwegian music" with Grieg, he died of tuberculosis in Berlin at the young age of 23. Norwegian soprano Helene Voll, who recorded "Songs and Mutes" (LWC 1011), "Roses and Love" (LWC 1029), and "The Truth of Love" (LWC 1053) for LAWO Classics, and American pianist Eugene Asti, who performed with her in "Roses and Love" (on Hyperion is also known as the accompanist for the "Mendelssohn: Songs & Duets" series), this new album features all of Nordlok's songs and piano pieces, including the teenager's "Four Dances for Piano".
