Active since the 1980s, the bizarre yet straightforward legends, the Butthole Surfers, reigned as a central figure and role model during the alternative rock boom. Their album *AFTERTHEASTRONAUT*, recorded in 1998 but left on the shelf, is finally being released after 28 years! Their 1996 single “PEPPER” and album *ELECTRICLARRYLAND* were both massive hits. Having become a force that shook American living rooms—something they never could have imagined in their early days—the band immediately headed into the studio to record *AFTERTHEASTRONAUT*. The members were thrilled by the recording process, which incorporated the latest technology of the time, perfectly aligning with their constant pursuit of breaking the mold. Blending electronica, hip-hop, and acid grooves in pursuit of a higher level of alternative rock, the album was rejected by their major label—despite the band members’ confidence in it. Ultimately, it was significantly reworked and released in 2001 released as *WEIRDREVOLUTION*. *AFTERTHEASTRONAUT* finally saw the light of day thanks to a remix by guitarist Paul Reilly.
