Formed in 2005 out of the progressive rock band PROMETHEAN—which emerged on the scene in the late ’90s—the group has flexibly changed its lineup while centering on its sole original member, Esa Juujarvi (bass/vocals). For over 20 years, this Finnish music collective—ONSEGENENSEMBLE—has continued to produce an innovative soundscape that transcends genres, connecting everything from heavy progressive rock to folk music, doom metal, psychedelic rock, post-rock, shoegaze—creating an original soundscape that defies existing frameworks. Now, ONSEGENENSEMBLE—a Finnish musical collective that has continued to produce this genre-defying music for over 20 years—presents “ATALE,” their 2026 release and first album following their move to Norway’s Karisma Records. Recorded by a nine-piece ensemble that combines a standard band lineup of vocals, guitar, bass, and drums with dedicated wind and string players—including trumpet, flute, and violin. "Garden of Celestials" blends Vilma Pesola’s (vocals) dignified voice and organic sounds rooted in Nordic folk into a cool, transparent soundscape—similar to that of Sigur Rós—created by reverb-drenched clean-tone guitars; "The Word," an instrumental track featuring dramatic song development with grand choruses and orchestration that gradually build in intensity toward the climax—a track sure to appeal to symphonic fans—are among the seven tracks included here, representing the ensemble’s most mystical and innovative musical expression to date.
