Centered around Ronald Nygard (g), with whom he has been making music since 1978, and Hans Olav “Hasse” Horrigmoe (b), who has also been actively involved with the ORESUNDSPACECOLLECTIVE in recent years, the blues-rock band SENTRALVASKERIET was formed around 1980. After changing their name to TANGLEEDGE in the summer of ’82, they used their intensely trippy, improvised performances—which blended a diverse range of musical styles, from progressive rock to krautrock, post-punk, free jazz, and folk music, all rooted in psychedelia—as their signature sound, This Norwegian psychedelic rock band, which has been active in the underground scene for many years, released a live album in 1986 on cassette—featuring a recording of their April 1986 performance in Narvik, Norway—which is now being released on CD for the first time in 2026 by Norske Albumklassikere! Regarding this Narvik performance, a live recording restored and remixed from the original master—titled APHRODITE’S GROOVE—has already been released on the band’s Bandcamp page, and this reissue features the same track order and audio as APHRODITE’S GROOVE. Contrary to the band’s usual image, this live recording features a surprisingly cohesive performance—a nostalgic throwback to early ’70s psychedelic jazz-rock that’s both rough-around-the-edges and tightly executed. Furthermore, the double cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House” and Canned Heat’s “Fried Hockey Boogie”—featuring guest vocalists—the band builds to a fairly predictable climax as a live act. With a raw, unpolished feel unique to their early days that adds to its charm, this is an essential recording for anyone looking to delve deeper into the band’s music!
