The "Norwegian Christmas" album by the female chorus "Cantus" who sang the opening song "Velie" in Disney's film "Anna and the Snow Queen" is now available! In winter, when the nights are long and dark, the northern country is flooded with light for one day only: Christmas. Mothers in Norwegian homes are busy with various preparations for this season that children eagerly await. The women's choir Cantus, which sang the opening song "Velie" in Disney's "Anna and the Snow Queen," has created a "Norwegian Christmas" album dedicated to the "Norwegian Mother" and to Mary, the "Mother of the Son of God," who was born in a stable in Bethlehem. The songs include folk songs from Telemark, Vuk in Verdal, and Surnadar, "Sancta Maria" and "Goodnight Boy" by modern Norwegian Frank Harvroy, "The Queen of Heaven" by Kim Andre Arnesen, and "Arctic Light" by Ola Jairo. Gruber's "Sancta Maria" will be sung on a poem by Ingemann, while the Swedish folk song "Happily Ever After Christmas" and Reger's "Maria's Lullaby" will be sung with Norwegian lyrics.The project features folk singer Yunni Buksasp and Trondheim composer Trygve Broske. The group has created new compositions for Cantus, as well as modifying old but little-known folk songs, under the direction of Tove Lambro-Justa, who has guided Cantus since its inception in 1986. In addition to the a cappella pieces, several of the songs feature vocals and zither by Buksasp, keyboard instruments by Broske, sittern and guitar by Bendik Lund Hoensfuss, and bass by Magne Westrum. Recorded at the Rademoen Church in Trondheim, the album was produced and engineered by Motten Lindberg, one of the pioneers of "Immersive Audio."
