Norwegian female jazz drummer Veslemøy Narvesen's new album for 2026, "Letting All Light Through." The 12 tracks on the album trace Narvesen's musical journey to date, expanding the possibilities of contemporary pop music. Recorded primarily at co-producer Håkon Bruunborg's studio in Oslo's Pilstrødet, Veslemøy and Håkon handle most of the instruments on the album, with several of Norway and Europe's most exciting young musicians also contributing. Additional contributors include: - Nicholas Reilth on double bass and baritone guitar - Ingrid Margit Narvesen (Veslemøy's sister) on vocals - Bethany Forses Reichberg on vocals - Sondre Moshagen on synthesizer - Ketia Linga Karahona on flute - Oda Holt Günther on violin The new work reflects a stronger influence of classical music, particularly evident in tracks like "Thread," "Prelude," "Mad Lovers," and "Adore." Through his parallel collaboration with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (Kringkastingsorkesteret), Narvesen used this influence as a starting point to create the music for this album. Consequently, this album is more ambitious, featuring intricate string arrangements, richer colors and timbres, and grand passages depicting complex harmonic landscapes. The album's atmosphere presents a duality, depicting darkness and light, despair and hope. Drum machines, synthesizers, and samplers create a cold, mechanical soundscape. Warm, intimate sounds are conveyed through close-miked upright piano, strings, and harp motifs. The album's theme is precisely this ability to capture both light and dark—the full spectrum and complexity of human emotion.The album title "Letting All Light Through" is a phrase that surrenders to the inevitable hope that dwells within us, something that inevitably surges forth and returns after periods of darkness.
