FEARFUL SYMMETRY is a progressive rock project based in London, UK. It was formed in 2019 by multi-instrumentalist Suzi James (g/b/key/fl/vl etc) and bassist Jeremy Shotts, who are cousins. Currently, with Suzi as leader and Jeremy's daughter Yael Shotts on vocals, the project is active. Following two self-released works, their third album, their first release on a label, arrives in March 2025 via ProgRock.com's Essential! Infused with respect for traditional progressive rock sounds, including YES, this album blends jazz-rock and fusion techniques with the romanticism and fantasy of British folk, plus a mainstream pop essence. It features a richly varied musicality that prioritizes bright, accessible melodies—technical yet never falling into mere virtuosic display.The album broadly divides into vocal tracks featuring a natural, beautiful voice that connects with listeners and instrumental numbers emphasizing tight band sound, yet all songs are meticulously crafted with a distinct sense of musicality. Highlights include "One By One," where Sharon Petrover (drums), who also appeared on the previous two albums, delivers an upbeat jazz fusion drum beat alongside beautiful vocal harmonies that gracefully open the track, and the dramatic epic "Tears of the Gods," which begins with a Middle Eastern-inspired tribal mood before gradually building to a progressive-style crescendo! Mark Cook (g), known as the leader of the American avant-prog band HERD OF INSTINCT, makes a guest appearance on "There Are No Words" with a war-like guitar solo.
