Concert Live for the 300th Anniversary of the Accession of George IThis album is a live recording of a concert held at St. John Smith's Square in London to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the accession of Georg Ludwig of Hanover as King George I of England in 1714. Handel was appointed court music director by the Elector of Hanover in 1710, but relinquished this post and went to London, England in 1712. In London, Handel enjoyed steady success, especially in opera, and composed music for court festivals and, in 1713, music for the birthday of his favorite princess, Princess Anne. However, when Princess Anne died in 1714, the Elector of Hanover, from whom Handel had resigned his post, welcomed him to England as King George I. He was also a great admirer of Handel's music, which he composed for the royal family and for the royal court. There is an anecdote that Handel composed "Music on the Water" to put him in a good mood, but the true meaning of this story is not known.In any case, Handel wrote many works for the court after the change of kings, and he also composed four choral anthems for the coronation of George II: "Zadok the Priest," HWV 258; "Thy Hands Be Strong," HWV 259; "Lord, the King Delights in Thy Power," HWV 260; "My Heart is Full of Beautiful Words," HWV 261 HWV260, and "My heart is full of beautiful words" HWV261. This anthem is still performed at the coronation ceremonies of the King of England, and is a powerful, gorgeous, and elegant work typical of Handel. King International
