Bright Eyes

Description:

Bright Eyes, an indie-pop project led by musical genius Conor Oberst, produces folky pop songs with delicate vocals and acoustic guitar. After releasing their ninth album, The People's Key, in 2011, Bright Eyes went on an unofficial, extended hiatus. Since then, the three core members of the band (Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, and Nathaniel Walcott) have been working on their own projects and collaborations. On June 22, 2020, Bright Eyes will play their latest single, "Mariana Trench," on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The band will release new material in January 2020 and a new song, "Persona Non Grata," in March.Since then, they have continued to release "Forced Convalescence" and "One And Done," and with this fourth single, "Mariana Trench," their first new album in nine years, "Down In The Weeds, Where The World Was The release of "Down in the Weeds, Where the World Was" was also announced. Down in the Weeds, Where the World Was" is Bright Eyes' most collaborative work to date, and it all began with a demo written at Omaha and Walcott's home. This work also seems to be a fusion of past Bright Eyes. The use of symphony recalls Walcott's orchestral arrangements on "Cassadaga" and the percussive elements recall "Digital Ash in a Digital Urn". Oberst's voice and folk songwriting at its core is that of Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground and I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning. The acoustic guitar sound dates back to Mogis's productions on a four-track effort Oberst had created 25 years earlier. Through recording sessions at ARC Studios in Omaha, Electro-Vox in Los Angeles, and Capitol Studios, also in Los Angeles, the trio created an experimental, ambitious, and inventive album. The rhythm section also features guest contributions from John Theodore (Queens of the Stone Age, Mars Volta) and Free (Red Hot Chili Peppers).
