Mereba, an R&B singer-songwriter from Alabama, releases her second album, The Breeze Glue a Fire, her first since 2019, on Secretly Canadian. Following the release of her debut album, Mereba gave birth to a son in 2021. Her self-perception changed as she took on the role of mother and nurturer. As a result, her creative methods and motivations have changed. For the album, I went back to creating many of the songs on my own," she said. So I was trying to find my way back to myself first. What do I like? What do I want to hear? What do I want to tell people now? she says of the early stages of The Breeze Grew A Fire. To help with the creation, Mereba enlisted longtime production collaborator Sam Hoffman. Together, they coassembled a lush production that rivals its folkloric warmth; folk music was Mereba's first foray into songwriting. And Atlanta's diverse music scene continued to grow his artistry.'Growing up in Atlanta's ripe underground music scene as an indie musician was a huge influence on my journey and sound. I was in all kinds of shows - folk, reggae, rap, R&B, etc. I also forged a relationship with Spillage Village, a rap collective I'm still a part of today with JID, Earthgang, 6lack, and others," she says. Mereba's debut album, The Jungle Is the Only Way Out" and its follow-up, the AZEB EP, were both released to critical acclaim. The lead single was played on Tiny Desk, COLORS, and the BET Awards and gained a worldwide cult following. During the final stages of the album's production, he was mentored by Stevie Wonder, who also encouraged him to take control of his music as a producer. He also participated in Dreamville Records' Grammy-nominated album, Revenge of the Dreamers III.Four of her songs are featured on HBO's hit series Insecure.
